Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
